Prepares clients to progress to year 2 for final exams
The course has been designed in order to provide business with personnel who are skilled in accounting techniques. The aim of the course is to provide learners with expertise, experience and knowledge in accounting, in the areas such as financial accounting and budgeting, costing and credit control, payroll and tax returns for various types of business. Accounting Technicians will possess the knowledge, skills and competencies to either work on their own or alongside professional accountants. They will find work in all types of organisations and are widely employed throughout the public sector, industry and in private accounting practices.
This is a full time tutor led course where a combination of training methods is used to deliver this course. These include instructions, presentations, demonstrations, supervised practice, practical work training, discussion groups, role plays, and giving and receiving feedback. Participants are required to actively participate in the learning process and engage in course work outside of course hours. They must complete a number of written exercises throughout the course and keep up-to-date records of their progress. A number of methods are used to assess the participants’ progress and for certification purposes. These include internal theory exams, practical exams, learner records and skills demonstrations.
Applicants must have reached the current statutory school leaving age. Applicants who are over 21, are considered as mature students and there are no entry requirements.
For those under 21 the following entry requirements apply:Leaving Certificate with five passes in Ordinary Level papers. (Passes to include English/ and either Mathematics or Accountancy) or
Leaving Certificate with four passes of which at least two are in Higher Level papers. (Passes to include English and either Mathematics or Accountancy)or
Learners who are sitting the Applied Leaving Certificate should contact the Registrar(register@AccountingTechniciansIreland.ie) directly for advice on whether they are eligible or Learners under 21 who have successfully completed a nationally recognized qualification such as HETAC, QQI (Level 5), QCA or a BTEC National Diploma may also be eligible to apply.
Accounting technicians enjoy excellent employment and career prospects. Their skills are in demand in large and small companies and organisations across all sectors of the economy. They perform a variety of financial roles from financial accounting to budgeting, costing, credit control, payroll and tax returns. Graduates of this course are well positioned to seek employment in a variety of accounts jobs, particularly in jobs that require multi-skilled, flexible and adaptable personnel. Suitably qualifying graduates have the option to progress to year 2 of the course.
