QQI Level 5 Signwriting - 5S2256
The purpose of the Signwriting course is to provide the learners with the knowledge, skills and competence in traditional Signwriting and Gilding Skills and computer generated signage and graphics, to pursue a career in the Signage industry or in self-employment.
The modules included are:
Graphic Design Skills (award 5N1978)
In this module the learner will explore the principles and procedures of Graphic Design and to apply acquired skills to produce a body of work that illustrates both problem solving and effective visual communication through design.
Traditional Signwriting & Gilding (award 5N6245)
The aim of this module is to design and produce a variety of traditional decorative hand painted and gilded signs using appropriate materials and techniques working under supervision.
Computerised Signmaking (award 5N15793)
Learners will design and produce a variety of computer generated signs and graphics using appropriate materials and techniques particular to the signmaking industry whilst working under supervision.
The Career Planning & Job Seeking Skills module will prepare learners to plan and achieve realistic work goals.
This is a full time tutor led course where a combination of training methods is used to deliver this course. These include instructions, presentations, demonstrations, supervised practice, practical work training, and giving and receiving feedback. Participants are required to actively participate in the learning process.
Applicants should have achieved a minimum of a QQI Level 4 Award or its equivalent. Good numerical and communication skills are essential, including verbal and written command of the English language.
Applicants must demonstrate an appreciation of and an aptitude for art and graphics, in conjunction with good visual awareness and a flair for proportion and form.
Signwriters are required by exhibition and display companies, traffic Control and safety industry, and vehicle signage.
