The purpose of this course is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence in a range of sports, recreation and exercise activities to work under supervision in a variety of sports related contexts and or to progress to further and or higher education and training.
This is a full time tutor led course where a combination of training methods is used to deliver this course. These include instructions, presentations, demonstrations, supervised practice, practical work training, discussion groups, role plays, and giving and receiving feedback. Participants are required to actively participate in the learning process and engage in course work outside of course hours. They must complete a number of written exercises throughout the course and keep up-to-date records of their progress. A number of methods are used to assess the participants’ progress and for certification purposes. These include internal theory exams, practical exams, learner records and skills demonstrations.
Applicants must have reached the current statutory school leaving age. Junior certificate level or equivalent minimum. Excellent verbal and written skills.
Aptitude for and demonstrate keen interest in fitness/sport activities
Participants who successfully complete this course will typically seek entry level positions as sports coaches, fitness instructors, soccer coaches and assistant swimming teachers. Some participants may opt to progress to higher level related education and training programmes.
